God has not given us a spirit of fear.

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control. – 2 Timothy 1:7

We as God’s children have not been given a spirit of fear, but of love, power and a sound mind.

Fear: An unpleasant EMOTION caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or threat.

Fear is an EMOTION just like “happy, sad, delighted, angry. relieved, etc.” So i.o.w “fear” as a negative emotion can be REPLACED by a POSITIVE emotion. What would I replace fear with? Love and Confidence. How do I get it? By realising that God has given me the power to rule over the enemy.

Power: 1 – The ability to do something or act in a particular way. 2 – The capacity or ability to direct or influence the behaviour of others or the course of events.

35 O God, awe-inspiring, profoundly impressive, and terrible are You out of Your holy places; the God of Israel Himself gives strength and fullness of might to His people. Blessed be God! Psalm 68:35

God gives us, His people STRENGTH and FULLNESS of MIGHT. (POWER)

29 He gives power to the faint and weary, and to him who has no might He increases strength [causing it to multiply and making it to abound]. Isa 40:29

But He said to me, My grace (My favor and loving-kindness and mercy) is enough for you [sufficient against any danger and enables you to bear the trouble manfully]; for My strength and power are made perfect (fulfilled and completed) and [b]show themselves most effective in [your] weakness. Therefore, I will all the more gladly glory in my weaknesses and infirmities, that the strength and power of Christ (the Messiah) may rest (yes, may [c]pitch a tent over and dwell) upon me! 2 Cor. 12:9

When we are weak, when we are at our lowest point, our wits end God strengthens us. When we are scared His POWER is made perfect in us!

Love: 1 – An intense feeling of deep affection. 2 – A person or thing that one loves.

The above definitions of love that I found does not quite cut it for me. Love can not be explained (defined) and yet we all know love. 🙂

18 There is no fear in love [dread does not exist], but full-grown (complete, perfect) love [g]turns fear out of doors and expels every trace of terror! For fear [h]brings with it the thought of punishment, and [so] he who is afraid has not reached the full maturity of love [is not yet grown into love’s complete perfection]. 1 Jhn 4:18

God’s love is made perfect in us and drives out fear. Fear is therefor replaced by love.

Jhn 3:16 Tells us of Jesus who gave His life for us. God loved the world so much that He gave His one and only Son for us. That’s what perfect love is… When you are willing to give EVERYTHING! If we want love to become perfect in us, all we have to do is follow the example of 1 Cor. 13:4-8

Love endures long and is patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily.

It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God’s love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong].

It does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when right and truth prevail.

Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening].

Love never fails [never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end]. As for prophecy ([a]the gift of interpreting the divine will and purpose), it will be fulfilled and pass away; as for tongues, they will be destroyed and cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away [it will lose its value and be superseded by truth].

Which also brings me to the fruit of the Spirit, because when God’s love is made perfect in us we automatically bear fruit of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-23

Sound Mind: According to wikipedia: Sanity refers to the soundness, rationality and healthyness of the human mind. The term “sanity” has become exclusively synonymous with “Compos mentis” (Latin: Compos, having mastery of, and mentis, mind) With “non compos mentis”, or insane meaning troubled conscience.

So if we have a troubled conscience. i.o.w we do not have a sound mind, it means we have fear in some area of our lives that we need to deal with. BUT! When we have a sound mind, we have Power and God’s perfect love. The Amplified Bible (my favorite to read) uses the terms : “calm and well-balanced mind, and discipline and self control.” Which to me explains the emotional state of a sound mind perfectly. You are calm. You think rationally. You are relaxed. You are disciplined. You have self-control.

So in conclusion: When God says He gives us power, love and a sound mind, HE GIVES US FREEDOM!

Hope you enjoyed todays post.

Have a blessed week!

Love x
