Who are you?

Wow… What a week it’s been. The more I digg into God’s word the more He reveals Himself and His plan to me. I have recently been stuck with the questions of who are we, why are we here, why were we created? Eventhough I have overcome my own poor self image and found my identity in the Lord, I have noticed so many children of God struggling with the same questions… To find out who we are and why we were created we need to back right up to the beginning.. Right to the creation of the earth. Genesis Chapter 1 tells us of the creation of earth. I always try and visualise how spectacular that scene of creation must have been. God spoke mere words and everything was created! How amazing!

Genesis chapter 2 tells us that man [Adam] was lonely and that wasn’t pleasing in the eyes of the Lord so He put a deep sleep over Adam and built up a woman [Help meet] for Adam. And God gave them authority over all creatures on the dry land, in the air and under the waters. [Genesis chapter 1]. So that sums up where we come from, but why?

11 Worthy are You, our Lord and God, to receive the glory and the honor and dominion, for You created all things; by Your will they were [brought into being] and were created. Rev. 4:11 [AMP]

Even everyone who is called by My name, whom I have created for My glory, whom I have formed, whom I have made. [Isa. 43:7 AMP]

See also Psalm 139:14 – 17

You are God’s crown of creation. The apple of His eye. The scripture teaches us that the Lord dances over us. We were created for HIS glory. He takes pleasure in us.  How wonderful is the thought that our God, our FATHER created us, not because He needed us, but because He WANTED us! The enemy loves to plant the idea of rejection, “I am not wanted” in our minds an so often we believe that, and here it is, right in Rev. 4:11. GOD CREATED US BY HIS WILL! It’s so comforting to know that even if no one on earth wants(ed) us, we were createdfor God’s joy. HE WANTED YOU!

What is our purpose then? Did God just want us for the fun of it? NO. God did not create us just to sit back and watch our lives play off as a soap opera, God created us to glorify Him. Our job as children of God is to glorify God in our every area of our lives. In everything we do, we must do it as if unto the Lord. Col. 3:23

A friend of mine on Facebook shared the folwing on a recent blog post of hers:

If I ever wondered how to find my identity, God’s word makes it clear:

  • I am created by God. Ephesians 2:10
  • I am chosen by God.  Colossians 3:12
  • I am adopted as his daughter. Romans 8:14
  • Forgiven of my sins. Colossians 2:13
  • Raised up from this earth. Ephesians 2:6
  • An example to others. Matthew 5:16
  • Free from my past. John 8:36
  • Justified. Romans 3:24
  • Given eternal life. Romans 6:23

Heres the link to her Blog: http://aproverbs31wife.com/how-to-find-my-identity/

We Find our true identity in the Lord. In His word. His living word and in His Spirit living in us. John 3:16 often comes to mind when I think of who I am in Christand how God sees me. Also there is no more condemnation for us. Rom. 8:1

That day when Jesus died on the cross on calvary God signed our adoption papers with the blood of His only Son. When we are reborn through the pirit and follow Jesus through the water we are a new creation and we accept God as our Father. We love Him because He first loved us. Not becaue we are so great, but because His Grace is enough for us. His love is made perect in us.

I want you to go and get a piece of paper and write down or copy and paste the following questions and declarations and print it out, stick it somewhere you will see it often during the day.

With the questions I want you to answer them too. The declarations you need to say it out loud every single day until you believe it and then also everyday after that too.

Questions:

  • Who created me?
  • Why am I here?
  • What am I willing to do so others can see Christ in me?

Declarations:

  • I am created by God. Ephesians 2:10
  • I am chosen by God.  Colossians 3:12
  • I am adopted as his daughter / son. Romans 8:14
  • I am forgiven of my sins. Colossians 2:13
  • I am raised up from this earth. Ephesians 2:6
  • I am an example to others. Matthew 5:16
  • I am free from my past. John 8:36
  • I am justified. Romans 3:24
  • I have been given eternal life. Romans 6:23

Whenever the enemy comes to discourage you in your identity remind him with those scriptures. Memorise them and write them on your heart. The word teaches us that God’s word is a double edged sword and we need that to cry victory over the enemy.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I pray that you will be blessed son/daughter of God. Whenever you feel discouraged, remember that you were created by a God who WANTED you, who finds pleasure in you and He dances for joy over you.

Be blessed x
