Proverbs 22:6 Amplified Bible (AMP)
Train up a child in the way he should go [teaching him to seek God’s wisdom and will for his abilities and talents],
Even when he is old he will not depart from it.
Many times I get parents who ask me this question:
“How do I teach my children to follow God?”
The answer is easy…
YOU should follow God! YOU should have a relationship with Him.
Your children will mimic your behavior. Monkey see, monkey do.
Being a Christian means that you are living a lifestyle of Christianity.
Christianity is not just another religion. Christianity is a lifestyle of relationship with God.
Last night my kids basically begged me to watch a show of a secular singer. We watched the two artists before him and I am fully aware of what type of songs he sings, so for the sake of keeping the peace and also to teach my children a lesson between worldly ways and living Christlike we stayed. My heart pounded violently as I wanted to just up and leave as he came on the stage.
With the previous two artists both our kids were enjoying the music and dancing, but when this guy opened his mouth I saw something happen inside our children. They got quiet.
I always pray over our children that their spirits will be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and that they will discern right from wrong. I saw that happen last night. I can pray this, because I am their parent and the authority over them. I stand under the authority of my husband and under the authority of God. That’s why I can do and ask this.
At some point our son came and sat on my lap. Almost wanting to hide. I asked him if he was tired and he said yes. I knew it was because the Holy Spirit was showing him that what he was taking part in was not right so we got up and left. My heart pounding of relief!
The sad part is that this artists biggest fans are children aged 10 and younger. Yes, older ages too, but these children were right in front at the stage singing every song, knowing all the sick immoral lyrics!
Now if a child that small can memorize those lyrics, why aren’t you as a Christian parent teaching them to love the Word of God and relationship with God as you are allowing them to listen to that rubbish!?
Christianity is a lifestyle. Your children will mimic your behavior. Your first disciples sit around your dinner table. Decide today what you want to do.
You are either for God or against Him. This is NOT fifty shades of grey.
It’s either yes or no.
Love in God.
